Hospitality at the Pomona Fairplex
Location: Fairplex Sheraton, 601 W. McKinley Ave. Pomona, CA 91768
CTEC's Hospitality Business Program
introduces students to the vast and
dynamic industry of hospitality on-site at
the Fairplex Sheraton Hotel. Hands-on
real life training entails working in the six
hotel departments; kitchen, restaurant,
banquet facilities, engineering
department, housekeeping and front
desk. Students interested in a career in
hospitality have the unique opportunity to
work outside the textbook and learn
limitless career possibilities in this stable
and growing industry.
Upon completion of this course students
will qualify for entry level positons in a
hotel setting. Students carry on their
education for a semester with on the job
training at the Fairplex Sheraton and are
encouraged to pursue further training and
education. Some options include:
- Enrollment in Community College
Hospitality and Restaurant Program
- Complete training at Cal Poly's Collins
College of Hospitality Management
-Additionally, Cal Poly Pomona and Mt.
San Antonio College have placement
programs that can give students a career
opportunity to work in well established
hotels and restaurants.
Course dates and weekly instruction hours: Wednesday July 7, 2010 to
Wednesday September 1, 2010. Class meets every Wednesday from 12:00 pm
to 6:00 pm and every Friday is a paid work experience shift from 10:00 am to
6:00 pm. Friday lunches are provided (hot lunches!).
*Wear white dress shirt, black pants and black leather shoes (no tennis shoes).
Career paths in this industry include: Hotel Management,
Concierge, Restaurant Management, Waitress/Waiter, Property
Management, Chef/Culinary Arts, Cook/Sous Chef, Travel Agent,
Banquet and Event Planner, Wedding Planner, Reservation
Agent, Amusement and Recreation Management and many more!
